Funding For Revolut Business Customers: Independent Business Loans

Bolton Business Finance is not Revolut

This page is published by Bolton Business Finance Ltd, an independent commercial finance broker in Bolton, England. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Revolut Bank UK Ltd, Revolut Ltd or any other company in the Revolut group. We do not offer Revolut business lending, we cannot apply for anything on your behalf, and we have no access to your Revolut account. Revolut Bank UK Ltd is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. We are not a bank and we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Revolut is named on this page only to identify the account a business uses.

Bolton Business Finance arranges business loans and other commercial finance for UK limited companies and LLPs that bank with Revolut. The funding comes from independent lenders on our panel, not from Revolut. It matters because Revolut’s own business help centre states that Revolut Business does not provide credit, credit cards or overdrafts.

There is no Revolut business loan to apply for and no Revolut business overdraft to arrange. Revolut Business is an account and a payments platform, and a strong one, but every pound a Revolut customer borrows has to come from somewhere else. That is the entire reason this page exists.

Written by Marcus Wright, owner and founder of Bolton Business Finance Ltd, in financial services since 2008 and a commercial finance broker since March 2019. Revolut’s published position on this page was checked on 20 September 2026. Last reviewed September 2026.

The short version

  • We are an independent broker with no connection to Revolut. The funding described here comes from third party lenders on a panel of 135+.
  • Revolut’s own business help centre states that Revolut Business does not provide credit, credit cards or overdrafts. There is no Revolut business loan and no Revolut business overdraft to apply for. Check Revolut directly before relying on anything written here.
  • Banking with Revolut is neither a help nor a hindrance to an application elsewhere. No lender on our panel requires you to move your account.
  • We arrange from £10,000 to £10 million, from around 6.9% per annum unsecured for strong established companies and considerably higher where the risk is greater.
  • Revolut Business is only open to fully incorporated UK companies, so almost every Revolut Business customer sits outside the consumer credit regime and we can act at any facility size.
  • If you trade as a sole trader, use Revolut Pro, and want to borrow £25,000 or less for business purposes, that is a regulated credit agreement and we cannot arrange it. An FCA authorised lender or broker can.

What Revolut Business lends

Revolut answers this in one line on its own help centre. Asked whether Revolut Business provides a credit or overdraft facility, Revolut states that at the moment it does not provide credit, credit cards or overdrafts. That wording was checked on 20 September 2026. Revolut is the only authoritative source for its own product range, so check the Revolut Business help centre before you rely on anything written here.

That makes the position simpler than it is at most banks. There is no small facility to outgrow, no lending ceiling to compare against and no decision to appeal. Revolut Business gives you a current account, multi-currency accounts, cards, expense management, invoicing and payment acceptance. Borrowing is not part of the product set.

What this is not. Revolut Bank UK Ltd holds a UK banking licence, is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority, is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority, and appears on the Financial Services Register under number 981170. Choosing not to offer credit is a decision about product range, not a signal about the bank. There is nothing on this page that is a reason to move your business account.

What it does mean, practically, is that a Revolut Business customer who needs to borrow has to look outside their own bank from day one. That is not unusual and it is not a disadvantage. Plenty of companies bank in one place and borrow in another, and no lender on our panel will ask you to change bank as a condition of funding.

Who can open a Revolut Business account

Revolut sets out three eligibility criteria for a Revolut Business account. The company must be fully incorporated and active, it must be registered in the UK, and it must not operate in one of the industries Revolut does not support. A sole trader who has not incorporated therefore cannot hold a Revolut Business account. Revolut’s own guidance points the self-employed at Revolut Pro instead, which sits inside the retail app alongside a personal account, and says that a business which grows or needs more features may need a Revolut Business account instead.

That distinction matters more than it sounds, because it decides whether we are allowed to help you at all. A limited company is a body corporate, so its borrowing is never a regulated credit agreement whatever the size. We can act on a £10,000 facility for a Revolut Business customer exactly as readily as a £1 million one. At a bank whose business accounts are full of sole traders, that is not true, and small facilities have to go elsewhere.

Sole traders, Revolut Pro and the £25,000 line

If you trade as a sole trader and run your work income through Revolut Pro or a personal Revolut account, the position is different, and it is better to know now than after an enquiry.

Why we cannot arrange a sole trader loan of £25,000 or less

Under article 60C(3) of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 (Regulated Activities) Order 2001, a credit agreement is exempt from regulation only where the credit exceeds £25,000 and the agreement is entered into wholly or predominantly for business purposes.

That means a business loan of £25,000 or less to a sole trader, or to a partnership of two or three people not all of which are companies, is a regulated credit agreement. Arranging one is a regulated activity. Bolton Business Finance Ltd is not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, so we cannot do it and we will not try.

An FCA authorised lender or an FCA authorised credit broker can. If that is your situation, that is the route, and we would rather tell you now than waste your time.

Where the position changes:

  • Limited companies and LLPs. A company is a body corporate, so its borrowing is never a regulated credit agreement whatever the amount. We can act at any facility size. Every Revolut Business account holder falls here.
  • Sole traders borrowing more than £25,000 for business purposes. The agreement falls outside regulation and we can act.
  • Partnerships of four or more people. Treated differently again, and usually outside the consumer credit regime. Tell us the structure and we will confirm before doing anything.
  • Asset finance and invoice finance. Different agreements with their own rules. Tell us what you are trying to do and we will tell you straight away whether we can act.

If you are a sole trader whose turnover has grown to the point where borrowing is on the table, it is worth taking advice on incorporating. That is a decision for your accountant rather than your broker, but it changes both the lending market open to you and whether a broker like us can act.

What a Revolut customer can still do

Your bank not lending does not shut you out of borrowing. It just means the lender and the bank are two different companies, which is the normal position for most commercial finance in the UK anyway.

  1. Export three to six months of Revolut statements. PDF or CSV from the app or the web portal. This is what an underwriter reads first.
  2. Export every currency you trade through, not just sterling. This is the mistake we see most often on Revolut cases. An underwriter reading only the GBP account of a company that invoices in dollars and pays suppliers in euros sees a fraction of the real turnover, and either prices the facility on that fraction or declines it.
  3. Pull your most recent filed accounts. Plus management figures if those accounts are more than nine months old.
  4. Decide the amount and the purpose. Lenders ask what the money is for and they do check. A specific purpose with the return it generates beats a vague request for working capital.
  5. Let us check criteria before anything is submitted. We match the case against funders whose criteria it actually fits, so you are not collecting credit searches to find out.
  6. Compare the offers on total cost, not headline rate. Check the arrangement fee and the early repayment terms. Both move the real number more than a percentage point on the rate.

Nothing changes on your Revolut account. Repayments are collected by direct debit from whichever business account you nominate, which can be your Revolut account. Revolut is not involved in the facility and is not notified of it.

Who banks with Revolut

Revolut says it powers over 800,000 businesses globally, with more than 30,000 new businesses joining each month. In the UK the account pulls in a particular sort of company: one that moves money across borders.

The draw is multi-currency accounts, exchange at the interbank rate within plan limits, local account details in several markets and transfers to well over a hundred destinations. So the customers we see are importers paying suppliers in dollars, exporters invoicing European customers in euros, online retailers taking payment in three currencies, agencies paying contractors abroad and software firms billing globally.

That shapes what those businesses actually need to borrow for, and it is rarely a five year term loan. It is far more often the gap between paying a supplier before goods ship and getting paid by the customer sixty or ninety days after they arrive. That is a trade and working capital problem, not a term lending one, and it is the reason the products at the top of the table below matter more here than the ones further down.

One practical note. A small number of funders are still slow to treat app-based banking as ordinary, and a handful will want a longer statement history where the account is recent. That is a question of which lender the case goes to rather than a reason you cannot borrow, and it is the sort of thing a broker sorts out before an application rather than after a decline.

Products we arrange

A term loan is not always the right answer, and it is worth knowing what else exists before you fix on one.

What to ask for, by what you are trying to do
If you needThe product
To pay overseas suppliers before goods shipTrade finance, which pays the supplier directly rather than draining your own cash
A facility you draw and repay as you goA revolving credit facility, which is the closest replacement for a business overdraft
To buy stock or fund a purchase orderStock finance, repaid as the stock sells through
Cash tied up in unpaid invoicesInvoice finance, releasing most of an invoice’s value the day you raise it
A lump sum repaid monthlyAn unsecured business loan, £10,000 to £10 million
A vehicle, machine or piece of equipmentAsset finance, spread against the asset rather than drawn from working capital
To buy premisesA commercial mortgage
To move fast on a property purchaseA bridging loan for business purposes
To build or convertDevelopment finance
Funding sized on card takingsA merchant cash advance, repaid as a share of daily sales
Cover for a dated VAT or tax billA short term business loan over 3 to 12 months
Government backed supportThe Growth Guarantee Scheme, through accredited lenders

The first two lines are the ones most Revolut customers are actually after. Trade finance pays your supplier against the order or the shipping documents, so you are not funding a container out of your own balance for the ten or twelve weeks it takes to arrive and sell. A revolving credit facility does the job a business overdraft would do if Revolut offered one: draw what you need, repay it, draw again, and pay interest only on what is drawn for the days it is drawn.

Worked example

An importer, a limited company, five years trading, banking with Revolut. It buys around £250,000 a year of product from suppliers in China and Italy, paying in dollars and euros. The suppliers want 30% on order and the balance before the goods ship. Stock takes about six weeks to arrive and another eight to sell through. The company needs £120,000 to place larger orders and stop turning away volume.

Illustrative options at £120,000
RouteShapeIllustrative cost
Term loan over 5 years£120,000, capital and interest, about £2,514 a monthAbout £30,850 total interest at 9.4% per annum
Trade financeSupplier paid directly against the order and the shipping documents, facility cleared when the stock sellsAn arrangement fee plus a charge for the days each drawing is outstanding
Revolving credit facilityDraw to cover each deposit and shipment, repay as stock sells, draw again on the next orderInterest only on what is drawn, for the days it is drawn

For this business the term loan is the worst of the three. The gap repeats with every order, so a five year loan is funding a fourteen week cycle for two hundred and sixty weeks and the company pays interest on the full balance in the weeks when the stock has already sold. Trade finance or a revolving facility matches the borrowing to the cycle and costs less over a year even at a higher headline rate. Figures are illustrative, reviewed September 2026, and are not an offer or a quotation. Run your own on the business loan calculator.

Worth adding on a case like this: a company earning in dollars and repaying in sterling is carrying currency risk that the loan itself takes no account of. Price the facility against a rate you would still be comfortable with if the exchange rate moved against you by ten per cent.

Eligibility

Minimum criteria across our panel

  • A UK limited company or LLP, which every Revolut Business account holder already is. Sole traders on Revolut Pro only where the credit exceeds £25,000 and is wholly or predominantly for business purposes.
  • Six months of trading is the practical floor and only a handful of funders will look at it. Twelve months of filed accounts opens up most of the market. Two to three years gets the best rates and the largest facilities.
  • Any legitimate business purpose: stock, hiring, equipment, premises, a tax bill, marketing, expansion, or clearing a more expensive facility.
  • Poor personal or business credit considered. Undischarged bankruptcy and live insolvency proceedings are not.
  • Most unsecured lenders will ask at least one director for a personal guarantee. That makes the director personally liable if the company cannot repay.
  • Banking with Revolut is neither a help nor a hindrance, and no lender on our panel requires you to move your account.

What we need to look at it: three to six months of business bank statements exported from Revolut covering every currency sub-account you trade through, your most recent filed accounts with management figures if those accounts are more than nine months old, the amount you need and what it is for, and directors’ names, dates of birth and home addresses for the last three years.

We do not need, and will never ask for, your Revolut login or read only access to your Revolut account. Nobody legitimate needs it. Everything a lender requires comes from statements you export yourself.

How to apply

Tell us the company name, what you need and what it is for, and we will come back the same day with the lenders that are realistic and roughly what each is likely to cost. There is no broker fee on unsecured business loan applications, the lender pays us, and there is no obligation to proceed. This is not an application to Revolut, and Revolut is not told about it.

Tell us what you need

Send the figures and we will search the market and come back with the options realistically available to your company. If the honest answer is that the facility you have asked for is the wrong shape for the problem, we will say so.

Questions from Revolut Business customers

Are you part of Revolut or working with Revolut?

No. Bolton Business Finance Ltd is an independent commercial finance broker in Bolton with no affiliation, partnership, endorsement or commercial relationship with Revolut Bank UK Ltd, Revolut Ltd or any other Revolut group company. We do not offer Revolut products and cannot apply for anything on your behalf or alter a Revolut decision. Revolut Bank UK Ltd is a UK bank regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. We are not a bank and we are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Revolut is named on this page only to identify the account a business uses.

Does Revolut offer business loans or business overdrafts?

Not in the UK. Revolut’s own business help centre answers the question directly and states that at the moment Revolut does not provide credit, credit cards or overdrafts on Revolut Business accounts. That wording was checked on 20 September 2026. Revolut is the only authoritative source for its own product range, so check the Revolut Business help centre before relying on anything written here. Positions change and Revolut has said nothing that rules out lending in future.

Should I move my business account because Revolut does not lend?

Not on that basis alone. Choosing not to offer credit is a decision about product range, not a signal about the bank. Revolut Bank UK Ltd holds a UK banking licence and is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and the Prudential Regulation Authority. Plenty of companies bank in one place and borrow in another, and no lender on our panel will ask you to change bank as a condition of funding. If the multi-currency side of Revolut is what makes your business work, changing bank to chase a facility you can get anyway would be an expensive swap.

I use Revolut Pro as a sole trader. Can you arrange a business loan for me?

Only if the credit exceeds £25,000 and is wholly or predominantly for business purposes. Below that figure a loan to a sole trader, or to a partnership of two or three people not all of which are companies, is a regulated credit agreement under article 60C of the Regulated Activities Order, and arranging one is a regulated activity. We are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, so we cannot act. An FCA authorised lender or credit broker can. Limited companies and LLPs are not affected by this at any facility size, which is why the question does not arise for Revolut Business account holders.

What replaces a business overdraft if Revolut does not offer one?

A revolving credit facility does the same job. You draw what you need up to an agreed limit, repay it, draw again, and pay interest only on what is actually drawn for the days it is drawn. The facilities we arrange run well above a typical small business overdraft. Where the gap is caused by customers paying on 30 to 90 day terms, invoice finance is usually a better and cheaper fit. Where it is caused by paying overseas suppliers before goods ship, trade finance is the right product rather than either.

Do I have to move my business account away from Revolut to borrow?

No. No lender on our panel requires you to change bank, and nothing changes on your Revolut account. Repayments are collected by direct debit from whichever business account you nominate, which can be your Revolut account. Revolut is not involved in the facility and is not notified of it.

My turnover runs through several currencies. Does that cause a problem?

Not if it is presented properly, and this is the single most common avoidable problem on Revolut cases. Export statements for every currency sub-account you trade through, not just the sterling one. An underwriter given only the GBP account of a company that invoices in dollars and pays suppliers in euros sees a fraction of the real turnover and will either size the facility on that fraction or decline it. Filed accounts give the full picture in sterling, so the two together settle it. Where a business earns in one currency and would repay in another, say so early, because it affects which lenders are sensible and how the facility should be structured.

Will I have to give a personal guarantee?

On unsecured company lending, usually yes. A personal guarantee makes a director personally liable for the debt if the company cannot repay it. It is not a mortgage over your home and it does not give the lender an automatic charge over your property, but it is a real obligation that outlives the company. Establish whether it is capped, whether it is joint and several, and whether it covers future borrowing before you sign anything.
